What is Laser?

Laser Card enables customers to pay for goods and services in over 70,000 retail outlets in Ireland. The amount is subsequently debited from the cardholder’s current account generally within a few days. Paying by Laser Card is faster, handier and safer than paying by cash or by cheque.

Laser is an Irish-based debit card scheme. It was set up in 1996 by Ireland’s leading financial institutions and has experienced superb growth in the last eleven years.

There are almost 3 million Laser Cards in circulation and 195 million transactions worth almost €11.2 billion were carried out on those cards in 2009.
